Born and raised in New Jersey, Lanie graduated in 2016 from the University of New Hampshire at Manchester with a Bachelor of Science in Sign Language Interpretation. She then briefly began her interpreting career as a freelance interpreter in the state of New Hampshire. Both as a mentee in the BA program and later as a NH licensed interpreter, Lanie observed and interpreted assignments including those in the medical, legal, educational, business, post-secondary, and mental health fields.
In the spring of 2017, Lanie moved to New York and began work as an apprentice interpreter on the Liberal Arts Core Team at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Alongside mentors and colleagues, she interpreted a range of assignments including various math, science, history, and literature courses as well as student club meetings, sports practices, and academic related gatherings between students, faculty, and staff. The apprenticeship also included the opportunity to be involved in (ADD SOMETHING COLLOQUIUM/IST...)
